Dokdo is currently administered by South Korea and considered as part of South Korean territory by the South Korean government.
The South Korean government maintains a small police detachment on the islands and has built infrastructure, such as a lighthouse, on the islands.
The Korean government has also claimed historical and legal evidence of sovereignty over Dokdo.
There are several historical and legal arguments that the South Korean government and scholars have made to support the claim that Dokdo is part of Korean territory.
- Historical evidence: South Korea maintains that Dokdo has been part of Korean territory since ancient times and that it appears in various historical Korean documents such as "Samgukyusa" (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms) and "Goryeosa" (History of Goryeo), as well as in maps made during the Joseon Dynasty.
- Legal evidence: South Korea also claims that Dokdo was included within the territory of the Korean Empire as well as the Korean Republic, and that Japan's claim to the islands is based on illegal occupation during the colonial period of Korea.
- Effective control: South Korea has been exercising effective control over the island since the end of the Korean War in 1953.
- International recognition: South Korea has also argued that the international community generally recognizes Dokdo as part of South Korean territory.
Dokdo is a group of small islands located in the Sea of Dong. The two main islands of Dokdo are known as East Island and West Island. The East Island is the larger of the two and is where the South Korean police detachment is stationed. The West Island is smaller and is mainly used as a landing site for boats.
The islands are volcanic in origin and are made up of basaltic rocks. They are surrounded by rocky cliffs and are characterized by a rugged terrain. The highest point on the islands is about 186 meters above sea level.
The islands are also home to a variety of wildlife, including sea birds such as the black-tailed gull and the crested auklet, as well as seals and sea otters. The surrounding waters are also known for their rich fishing grounds.
Due to its remote location and harsh weather conditions, Dokdo is difficult to access. Inspit of that,a number of korean people don't want the island to be alone. So,they visit the islands each year.
It is clear that Dokdo is Korean territory.
